Al Shabaab Attack Claims Lives of Four Elite Police Officers

Four elite Special Operations Group (SOG) officers lost their lives in an Al Shabaab attack at the border of Banisa and Mandera West Sub-counties in Mandera County. The attack occurred during a routine patrol in the Har Sigenge area, where 15 officers, including 12 SOG members and three National Police Reservists (NPR), were ambushed by militants, triggering a fierce firefight.



The devastating incident, which took place on Thursday at 5.45 pm, resulted in the death of four SOG officers. In addition, three officers were injured, and five are currently missing. The three NPR officers who were part of the patrol also sustained injuries.


"All the 6 injured are in stable condition and have been transferred from Guba Health Centre to Banisa Hospital awaiting airlifting to Nairobi," reads a police report.


The operation to locate the missing officers is ongoing, with "combined SOG officers from Guba, Ashabito and Takaba on the ground to search for the missing officers."
