Two men arrested with explosives near businessman Jimi Wanjigi’s residence have been ordered to remain in custody for seven days while police complete their investigation. The court ruled there were sufficient grounds for their detention amid the ongoing probe.

However, the men’s legal representative, Willis Otieno, has challenged the court's decision, arguing that their detention is unjustified. Otieno claims that the state’s case against his clients is based on questionable evidence. “The state alleges that explosives were recovered near Wanjigi’s home, but we believe the true culprits are police officers who planted the explosives,” Otieno argued.
Otieno further contends that CCTV footage reportedly captures the actual perpetrators planting the explosives, suggesting a possible frame-up. “Let the giants fight their battles without dragging innocent parties into their conflicts,” Otieno asserted, criticizing the use of the court’s time for what he views as a wrongful detention.
Duncan Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ochieng Odongo, the men in question, were apprehended last week and brought before the court under a miscellaneous application. Their lawyer has requested their release under certain conditions, questioning the validity of their continued detention.
As the investigation unfolds, the court faces mounting pressure to scrutinize the claims of both the defense and the state.
