Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has issued a daring challenge to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto to hold a rally specifically for Generation Z at Nyayo Stadium. Owino suggested that the two leaders should publicly ask for forgiveness from the youth for their handling of the controversial Financial Bill.
Owino was asked about the possibility of forgiving MPs aligned with the ruling coalition who had approved the Financial Bill. The bill has faced significant public backlash, prompting Gachagua to appeal for leniency on behalf of the lawmakers. Owino, however, was unyielding in his stance, proposing that the President and his Deputy should personally address the youth at Nyayo Stadium.
"President Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua should call for a rally at Nyayo Stadium for Gen Zs and come on foot, stand at the center of the field, and ask for forgiveness from there," Owino stated. He further challenged the ruling coalition to disclose and return funds he alleges were misappropriated from public coffers.
When questioned about the MPs' approval of the bill following public participation, Owino firmly asserted that President Ruto is not receptive to advice. "It is Ruto who advises his advisers on how to advise him. He can never be misadvised. He does not take any advice," he remarked.

The Financial Bill controversy reached a peak on Wednesday when President Ruto decided to shelve the bill. In response, DP Gachagua made a public plea for Kenyans to refrain from punishing the MPs, most of whom are part of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Gachagua defended their actions, citing their loyalty to the party and the government.
"I want to ask Kenyans not to punish MPs for the stand that they took. A government is formed by a political party. Once a government has a programme in Parliament and decides it is good for the people, members of Parliament from that party must toe the line," stated Gachagua.
As the debate around the Financial Bill continues, Owino’s bold challenge adds another layer of complexity to the political discourse, reflecting the growing discontent among the youth and the pressure on the ruling coalition to address their grievances.
