President William Ruto has greenlit a significant salary increase for all Kenyan police officers, set to begin in July 2024. This move aligns with recommendations made by the National Taskforce on Police Reforms, led by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

According to a State House communique addressed to the Exchequer, each police constable will see a monthly increase of KSh 4,000. The government has confirmed that this raise will impact the salaries of all 74,000 police constables across the country, costing the taxpayer KSh 1.3 billion in the 2024/25 fiscal year.
"The president has observed that the resources allocated for the review of the salary structure for the National Police Service for FY 2024/25 amount to KSh 1.3 billion," the communique stated. Consequently, the Exchequer has been directed to implement the salary review in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC). The salary increment will be reflected in the officers' July payslips, ensuring they benefit from the new structure immediately.
This increase aims to improve the welfare of the police force, recognizing their critical role in maintaining law and order in Kenya.
