Brighton & Hove Albion continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Arsenal, despite the Gunners being reduced to 10 men early in the second half. This result marks only the second draw in the last eight encounters between the two sides.
Arsenal came out with intent, launching a relentless attack down the right flank through Bukayo Saka. The young winger’s quick feet and sharp dribbling posed an immediate threat, as he carved out an early chance that forced Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen into action.
The Gunners seemed to have pinpointed Brighton's 19-year-old left-back Jack Hinshelwood as a potential weak spot, with Saka and Martin Ødegaard frequently combining to create opportunities. One such move saw Ødegaard loft a delicate chip into the box, but Saka’s volley lacked power, allowing Verbruggen to make a comfortable save.
As the first half progressed, Brighton began to find their footing, pushing higher up the pitch. However, Arsenal’s defensive duo of Gabriel and William Saliba stood firm, frustrating the Seagulls' attempts to break through.

Just as it seemed the first half would end goalless, a straightforward long ball changed the game’s complexion. Saka outjumped Lewis Dunk to flick the ball into the path of Kai Havertz, who coolly lobbed the onrushing Verbruggen to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.
The second half started with drama as Arsenal’s Declan Rice received a second yellow card just three minutes in, reducing the Gunners to 10 men. The decision, which came after Rice appeared to poke the ball away while being fouled by Joël Veltman, left Arsenal on the back foot.
Brighton capitalized on their numerical advantage, and it wasn’t long before they found the equalizer. Dunk’s precise pass sliced through Arsenal’s defense, setting up Yankuba Minteh for a one-on-one with David Raya. Although Raya made a smart save, João Pedro was on hand to slam home the rebound, leveling the score.
With momentum firmly on their side, Brighton dominated possession, pinning Arsenal deep in their half. Despite this, the Seagulls couldn’t convert their control into a winning goal, as both sides traded late chances. Saka saw a powerful effort thwarted by Verbruggen, while Raya produced a similar save to deny Jan Paul van Hecke.
The match ended with a point apiece, leaving both teams with identical records of two wins and a draw from their first three Premier League games. As they head into the international break, both Arsenal and Brighton will reflect on a match that tested their resolve and showcased their ambitions for the season ahead.
