In what marks a disturbing escalation in political violence, Cleophas Malala, the former Secretary General of Kenya's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has revealed a harrowing incident involving his close family members. On Monday, Malala disclosed that his son and 19-year-old brother-in-law were abducted at gunpoint and subjected to six hours of torture by unknown assailants. The aim, according to Malala's statement on social media, was to extract information about his whereabouts or that of his wife, presumably to reach him directly at his residence in Kitengela.
This incident comes on the heels of Malala's tumultuous exit from the UDA where, despite his removal as Secretary General on August 2, 2024, he maintains his ouster was politically orchestrated. This claim adds a layer of political intrigue and potential motive to the attack, suggesting that political vendettas might not only target the figures themselves but now their families.
