A Nairobi court on Friday dismissed cyber harassment charges against political activist Morara Kebaso, ruling that the charge sheet was defective. The court ordered that the Ksh50,000 bail Morara had posted be reimbursed, allowing him to walk free.
Morara's lawyer, Pareno Solanka, confirmed the dismissal and shared that the activist's bail would be returned. Morara had been accused of cyber harassment under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act after allegedly posting defamatory content about President William Ruto and billionaire David Langat on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
In his post, Morara claimed that Ruto had approached Langat for financial support during his campaign, causing the businessman to take out large loans using his properties as collateral. Morara was arrested in Nairobi by masked officers, who confiscated his devices before detaining him.
Although Morara received the favorable court ruling, the day took a violent turn when he was attacked by goons at the Bomas of Kenya while attending a public participation hearing on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion.
