Eldoret town was the scene of heated protests on Monday as frustrated residents took to the streets to demand justice over the Springmark Investment scandal. The protestors, who claim to have lost significant amounts of money in the failed investment scheme, voiced their anger at what they perceive as police indifference and possible collusion with the suspect.
Marching to the county commander's office, the protestors sought answers as to why the alleged mastermind, Ambrose Makech Abuti, remains at large despite multiple complaints and police reports. The victims accuse the police of dragging their feet, suggesting that some officers may be working in cahoots with the suspect to shield him from the law.

"Kile tunaomba ni serikali itusaidie tupate pesa zetu. Tunahangaika tukija mahali hapa tuki file wanatupea tu OB wakisema wanamtafuta," lamented Emily Wanjala, one of the victims, expressing the desperation felt by many who have been left in financial ruin.
Responding to the outcry, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi assured the public that the matter is under investigation. "Nataka kuonya watu ya Uasin Gishu, when the deal is too good, think twice. But pia nataka kuwahakikishia your case is in good hands. Itachunguzwa zile statements kama uliandika zitatumika," Mwanthi stated, emphasizing the need for patience as the investigation progresses.
The victims, however, remain skeptical, citing concerns that senior police officers and an unnamed influential government figure are interfering in the case. They allege that the suspect has evaded custody multiple times, thanks to these high-level connections.
Mwanthi sought to allay these fears, revealing that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the case, with officers from Nairobi now leading the probe. "Case sasa inakua taken over, kuanzia last week tuko na officers from DCI HQ ambao wanachukua hii case waichunguze kutoka Turbo. But I’m sure haitachukua muda," he reassured.
Despite these promises, the residents are determined to keep up the pressure, vowing to hold protests every Monday until Abuti and his accomplices are brought to justice. The Springmark Investment scandal has left many in Eldoret reeling, with some victims having invested their life savings, only to see it vanish in what appears to be a carefully orchestrated scam.
