A catastrophic fire erupted at Isiolo Girls High School on Saturday evening, engulfing a dormitory and prompting an urgent response from local and national rescue teams. The Kenya Red Cross Society quickly dispatched a team to the scene, where local residents and Isiolo County Disaster Management teams battled the blaze.
The fire broke out around 7:30 pm, with thick smoke billowing from the building as students rushed to save their belongings. Preliminary reports indicate that several Form One students were initially trapped, but there have been no confirmed casualties so far. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and police have not yet arrived at the scene.
This incident follows a similar tragedy less than 24 hours earlier at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, where 21 pupils lost their lives. Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed the increase in fatalities from an earlier count of 18 and reported that 139 out of 156 pupils have been accounted for.
