Ford Foundation Denies Ruto's Allegations of Funding Protests in Kenya.

Ford Foundation has vehemently refuted accusations made by President William Ruto that it has been fueling chaos through financial support for anti-government protests.

The turmoil began innocuously enough, with Gen-Z Kenyans organizing peaceful demonstrations against proposed tax hikes. However, these gatherings swiftly evolved into a broader movement targeting Ruto's administration, resulting in a series of violent clashes that have claimed numerous lives over the past month. The most tragic incident occurred on June 25, when enraged crowds stormed parliament and clashes with police turned deadly.

President Ruto, addressing a large crowd on Monday, directly criticized the Ford Foundation, insinuating that their financial backing was contributing to the unrest. He warned that any support for violence or anarchy in Kenya would not be tolerated.

Responding promptly, the Ford Foundation issued a statement on Tuesday categorically denying any involvement in the recent protests. Emphasizing their longstanding commitment to non-partisanship in grant distribution, the Foundation clarified that while they support Kenyan citizens' rights to peaceful advocacy, they adamantly oppose any actions or rhetoric that promote violence or division.

Established in 1936 by Edsel Ford, the Ford Foundation has a global presence dedicated to advancing social justice and democratic values. Despite accusations from President Ruto, the Foundation remains steadfast in its mission, stating unequivocally that their grants do not support or endorse the ongoing demonstrations against the finance bill.

As the nation grapples with its most severe political crisis under Ruto's leadership, street protests have subsided recently. However, activists have vowed to continue their advocacy efforts, underscoring the ongoing tensions and uncertainties facing Kenya's political landscape.
