Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga’s Son Passes Away

Athman Mutunga, son of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, passed away on Saturday, October 12, at the age of 50 after undergoing four surgeries over the past two months. Despite the best efforts of doctors and the support of his family, Athman died at Coptic Hospital.
In accordance with Muslim tradition, he was buried the following day, Sunday, October 13, in Kitui County.
Condolences poured in from across the nation. Chief Justice Martha Koome expressed her sorrow on behalf of the Judiciary, offering her heartfelt support to the Mutunga family during their time of grief. "While words may never fully ease the pain of the death of a loved one, we hope the family finds comfort in the cherished memories shared with Athman," she said.
Other prominent figures also mourned with the family, including IEBC official Roselyne Akombe and lawyer Miguna Miguna. The cause of Athman’s illness, which led to the surgeries, has not been disclosed.
