Former Kiambu Governor Waititu Criticizes President Ruto Regrets in Not Heeding Uhuru’s Warnings

In a statement during a funeral service in Kathiani, Machakos County, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu openly criticized President William Ruto for failing to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Mt. Kenya and the country at large. Waititu, a former ally of the president, expressed deep regret for not heeding the warnings of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had cautioned Kenyans against electing Ruto in 2022.

Waititu, speaking during the funeral of Mama Margaret Kavisa Katiku on Friday, accused Ruto of abandoning key pledges after assuming office. He cited rising costs of living and unaddressed extra-judicial killings as examples of Ruto’s failures, which he claimed are worsening the country’s situation.

"We are the ones who campaigned for Ruto when we were in UDA. You might remember the promises that were made. Turns out they were lies. Even the clergy were deceived," Waititu declared, adding that many who supported Ruto are now disillusioned.

The former governor reminded the audience that Ruto had promised to end extra-judicial killings, safeguard citizens from police brutality, and stop demolitions targeting the vulnerable. However, according to Waititu, the president has failed to deliver on these pledges.

"He promised that not a single person would be harmed by the police, but once in power, he became someone else," he stated.

Waititu also reflected on the foresight of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, admitting that those who ignored his warnings during the 2022 elections are now witnessing the consequences. "Uhuru warned us, but we didn’t listen, and now we are paying the price," Waititu admitted.
