Former MP Opens Fire at Anti-Corruption Detectives During Raid

Drama unfolded at the residence of a former Member of Parliament when he opened fire on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives who had arrived to search his house on Thursday afternoon.

The detectives were there to investigate allegations against the former MP's wife, who is accused of defrauding the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). As the detectives approached the house, the former MP reportedly began shooting at them. Fortunately, the detectives managed to contain the situation without any injuries and proceeded with their search.

During the raid, the EACC detectives found bags filled with US dollars. However, forensic analysis revealed that the currency was counterfeit. They also recovered various items used in the production of fake money, including assorted chemicals in powder and liquid form.

"During the operation, detectives recovered two briefcases full of US dollars, estimated to be in millions, and assorted chemicals suspected to be used for making fake notes. Samples of the notes tested at the EACC Integrated Financial Forensic Lab were found to be fake," the EACC statement read.

The former MP, his wife, and the recovered items—including the fake currency, a Ceska pistol with an expired firearm permit, and the chemicals—were handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which will continue the investigation.

The EACC explained that the MP's wife, a former employee of NHIF, had allegedly assisted various medical facilities in defrauding the national insurer of close to Ksh199 million.
