In a shocking development, four officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been detained on suspicion of breaking into a school accountant's car and stealing Ksh. 2.2 million in Nairobi's Utawala area. The officers, who are attached to DCI Kasarani and Ruai, will remain in custody for four days to allow police to conclude their investigations.
The detained officers are Sergeant Antony Ndegwa, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, Police Constables Simon Macharia Maina, and Anthony Mwendwa. Alongside them, civilians Young Wakhisi and Lukas Magoiga Chacha have also been implicated in the crime.

According to investigators, the six suspects trailed the accountant from Rophine International School from a bank in Utawala on June 3. It is believed that after the accountant parked his car outside the school, the suspects broke into the vehicle and stole the money.
“The detectives believe that the suspects followed the accountant from the bank until he parked the car outside the school premises,” a police spokesperson stated.
The accountant had entered the school with a portion of the money, which was intended for settling salary arrears for the school's casual laborers. However, upon his return to collect the remaining amount, he found the car had been broken into, and the money was gone.
“The accountant was inside the school with part of the money when the incident occurred. When he came back to get the rest, he found the car already broken into,” the spokesperson added.
The case has garnered significant attention, given the involvement of law enforcement officers in the alleged crime. The matter is scheduled to be mentioned in court on Friday, as the investigation continues to unfold.
This incident raises concerns about the integrity and trustworthiness of those entrusted with upholding the law. The public awaits further developments as the authorities delve deeper into the case.
