Gov’t announces loss of 900 birth certificates

The Kenyan government has cancelled 900 birth certificates following a significant error at the Mutomo Registration Office, ordering citizens to return the documents immediately. The invalid certificates fall within serial numbers 1502001 to 1502900, and must be handed over to Civil Registration Services at Hass Plaza, Nairobi, for proper disposal.

This follows a similar incident last month, where 366 title deeds were declared missing. The government, while distancing itself from liability, has faced growing public concern over the mishandling of vital records. Paul Mwangemi, Acting Secretary of Civil Registration Services, urged those affected to act swiftly, as the certificates are now unusable.

With both birth certificates and title deeds compromised in a short period, scrutiny over the security and management of crucial documents has intensified, sparking calls for increased transparency and stronger safeguards in official processes.
