Nelson Amenya, the whistleblower who unveiled the government's contentious plan to lease Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Indian conglomerate Adani Airport Holdings Limited, now fears for his life following the exposé.
Just two months ago, Amenya began leaking documents detailing the deal terms between the Kenyan government and the Adani Group. His revelations have sparked public outrage, with citizens rejecting the proposal and questioning the secrecy surrounding the arrangement.

Despite government assurances that the agreement is not yet finalized, many Kenyans remain skeptical, voicing their concerns about the opaque nature of the negotiations. The deal’s lack of transparency has only fueled opposition, turning it into a nationwide controversy.
In an interview with KTN, Amenya shared his fears, revealing that he has received threats from Indian bloggers as well as unidentified individuals within Kenya. “I don’t think I’m safe. I’ve received a lot of threats since the day I exposed this deal, both from Indian bloggers and here in Kenya,” Amenya explained. “The DCI tries to intimidate us by bringing trumped-up charges.”
Amenya, a 30-year-old pursuing a Master's in Business Administration at HEC Paris in France, further disclosed alarming details about the lease terms. According to him, Adani Airport Holdings seeks full control of JKIA and plans to use the airport as collateral to secure loans.
The situation has raised serious questions about the government’s motives and the potential implications of handing over such a key national asset to foreign control. With the public demanding transparency and accountability, Amenya’s exposé continues to fuel debate, even as his safety remains in jeopardy.
