The Ministry of Education has announced a ban on all extra-curricular and social activities in schools during the Third Term. The move aims to give candidates more time to prepare for the upcoming national examinations.

In a circular sent to Regional, County, and Sub-County Directors of Education, Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr. Julius Bitok said the directive seeks to reduce disruptions and ensure smooth exam preparations.
National Exam Timetable
The ministry confirmed the dates for this year’s key examinations:
KCSE: October 21 to November 21, 2025
KJSEA, KILEA, KPLEA, and KPSEA: October 27 to November 5, 2025
According to the ministry, these dates require schools to fully focus on academics and avoid activities that could distract candidates.
Banned School Activities
To create a conducive learning environment, several events have been suspended during the Third Term:
Prayer sessions involving parents or external guests
Annual General Meetings (AGMs)
Prize-giving ceremonies
Thanksgiving events
However, the ministry clarified that routine prayers and worship within schools will continue. These will only be led by chaplains and teachers, without the involvement of outsiders.
New Guidelines for Schools
Dr. Bitok directed that AGMs, prize-giving ceremonies, thanksgiving events, and special prayer days for candidates should be scheduled only in the First or Second Term of the academic year.
Furthermore, the government has suspended annual leave for all education officers during the exam period. This ensures adequate supervision and support for schools and candidates.
What This Means for Students and Parents
The ministry’s decision aims to create a quiet and focused environment for learners sitting their exams. Parents are encouraged to support their children from home and avoid organizing events that could interfere with preparations.
By restricting distractions, the government aims to enhance exam performance and preserve exam integrity nationwide.
