The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has threatened to strike at the start of the third term if the government does not honor the 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). KNUT Chairman Patrick Karinga stated that the Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) has not been implementing the agreed salary increments due to recent budget cuts. The TSC is expected to lose close to Ksh10 billion in the new budget estimates, which is contributing to the failure to meet the CBA terms.
This potential strike could severely disrupt learning across the country, impacting both students and teachers. The standoff highlights ongoing issues in the education sector related to funding and teacher compensation.
