One of the primary grounds for impeachment, according to Barasa, is Gachagua's alleged involvement in an attempt to overthrow President William Ruto's government. Speaking to the media, Barasa underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need to hold the deputy president accountable for his actions.

“When I arrived to sign the impeachment motion, I was the 242nd one, and there was already a queue. This means we have more than enough support to move forward with this process. The motion begins by being handed over to the Speaker, who will then review it. We are not dealing with a minor figure here; this is the deputy president—a man deeply entrenched in tribal politics and allegedly involved in a coup attempt against the president,” Barasa stated.

The impeachment process is expected to gather more signatures as the motion heads to the Speaker for further review. The grounds for the ouster highlight the political tension brewing within the government, with MPs calling for swift action. This could mark a major shift in Kenya’s political landscape if successful.
