In a shocking turn of events, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the primary suspect in the gruesome murders of at least 42 women whose bodies were discovered in Embakasi's Kware area, has escaped from Nairobi's Gigiri Police Station. The breakout occurred early Tuesday morning and also involved 12 other detainees, all Eritreans held for illegal immigration.

The daring escape was uncovered around 5:00 a.m. when Police Constable Gerald Mutuku, accompanied by the station's canteen manager, made a routine visit to the cells to serve breakfast. To their disbelief, they found the cells empty, with the suspects having fled after cutting through the wire mesh in the basking bay.
Khalusha, who had been awaiting arraignment for his plea hearing, is notorious for his chilling confession, where he admitted to murdering 42 women between 2022 and 2024, beginning with his wife. His gruesome crimes shocked the nation, with details emerging of how he strangled and dismembered his first victim, later disposing of her remains at the Kware dumpsite.
However, Khalusha later retracted his confession, alleging that he had been tortured by the police and coerced into admitting to the murders. His escape has raised serious concerns about the security and handling of high-profile suspects.
Authorities, including the Sub-County Police Commander, Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO), and the duty officer at Gigiri, have launched an extensive manhunt to track down Khalusha and the other escapees. Investigations are underway to determine how the breakout was orchestrated and to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the search intensifies, the public remains on high alert, fearing the potential danger posed by Khalusha’s return to society.
