Malawi Vice President's Plane Missing, Search and Rescue Operation Underway



On Monday, June 10, a military plane carrying Malawi's Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other passengers failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport. The plane, which departed from the capital city Lilongwe at 9:17 AM, lost contact with aviation officials and did not land as expected at 10:02 AM.

Following the incident, Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera immediately ordered a search and rescue operation. A statement from the Secretary of the President highlighted the urgency of the situation:


"As such, the Commander of the Malawi Defence Forces, Gen Valentino Phiri, has since informed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of the incident, and the president has since canceled his departures for the Bahamas."




The search and rescue mission involves multiple military and civilian resources, as authorities work tirelessly to locate the missing aircraft. The sudden disappearance of the plane has sparked widespread concern and prompted swift action from government officials.
