Man Pleads Not Guilty to Disrupting Treasury CS's Photo Session

In a dramatic turn of events outside the Treasury building on Budget Reading Day last week, a man accused of attempting to disrupt Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u's photo session has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Julius Kamau Kimani appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Wednesday, facing accusations of creating a disturbance likely to cause a breach of peace.

During the court session, Kimani firmly denied the charges, maintaining his innocence. In response, Magistrate Ochoi granted him a cash bail set at Ksh.10,000. The case is scheduled for mention on July 3, 2024.

In a previous court appearance last week, Magistrate Ochoi had ordered Kimani to undergo a mental assessment at Mathari Mental Hospital. However, in today's session, the court was informed that the health facility was unable to facilitate the mental assessment. The reasons for this were not disclosed during the proceedings.

The incident outside the Treasury building captured significant public attention, given its timing on Budget Reading Day, a crucial event in the country's financial calendar. As the case progresses, all eyes will be on the upcoming court mention to see how the legal process unfolds.

Kimani's defense and the court's handling of the mental health assessment order will be closely watched, particularly in light of the growing concerns around mental health and legal proceedings.
