State House Senior Advisor Moses Kuria visited the family of a four-year-old boy who was tragically killed by a hyena in Juja on Sunday evening. Kuria offered his condolences and assured the grieving family that he would personally follow up with relevant agencies to secure compensation within six months.
During the visit, Kuria highlighted the incident as part of a troubling new trend, noting that despite recent hyena attacks in the area, there had been no prior record of significant human-animal conflicts. Historically, Kuria stated, hyenas and residents coexisted peacefully.

Kuria has urged the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to shut down illegal mining sites and quarries that may be providing hiding spaces for wildlife, which could lead to increased human-animal encounters. He also called on the Kiambu County Government to revoke licenses and close abandoned quarries to mitigate these conflicts.
Furthermore, Kuria has requested Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to relocate the hyenas to a remote area, aiming to prevent further attacks on local residents.
