During a development tour in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, Foreign Affairs CS Mudavadi issued a stark warning, suggesting that rejecting the Finance Bill could lead to a vote of no confidence against the government. He emphasized that such a vote would compel President William Ruto to step down, triggering fresh elections.
Mudavadi commended legislators who supported the bill and urged them to withstand pressures from ongoing protests. He cautioned against underestimating the significance of rejecting the bill, stating, "Those advocating against the Finance Bill may ultimately push for a vote of no confidence as a means to remove Ruto from office."
Highlighting the global norm of Finance Bills, Mudavadi stressed that Kenya would be unprecedented in history if it failed to pass such legislation, potentially signaling administrative incompetence.
"The Finance Bill is critical as it forms the foundation of governance. Its failure carries significant consequences," Mudavadi reiterated during his remarks.
His statements come amidst nationwide protests against the Finance Bill, resulting in over 300 arrests and numerous injuries, including one fatality. The ongoing demonstrations underscore growing public discontent and political tensions surrounding the legislative process.
