New Bill Proposes Ksh.5 Million Fine for Pastors Exploiting 'Miracles and Blessings

To prevent the exploitation of unsuspecting congregants, a new bill has been suggested to impose a Ksh.5 million penalty on pastors who deceive Kenyans with false 'miracles' and 'blessings' to extort money. These recommendations stem from a presidential task force established by President William Ruto to assess the legal and regulatory framework overseeing religious organizations in Kenya.

The task force's conclusions, delivered to President Ruto at State House in Nairobi, seek to offer precise instructions on the operations of religious institutions. Embedded in the Religious Organisations Bill, 2024, the suggestions specifically target religious leaders who solicit money in exchange for promises of divine financial benefits.

The bill signifies a significant endeavor to supervise religious customs and safeguard the public from fraudulent activities masked as spiritual guidance. If approved, the legislation will make religious leaders answerable for deceitful practices, guaranteeing that faith-based interactions are based on honesty and openness.
