In a major reorganization, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has designated Junet Mohamed, the Member of Parliament for Suna East, as the new Minority Leader in the National Assembly. This change coincides with James Opiyo Wandayi, the Ugunja MP, transitioning to his new role as the Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, a nomination by President William Ruto.
Millie Odhiambo, the Suba North legislator, has been promoted to the position of Minority Whip, taking over from Junet Mohamed. These leadership adjustments within the ODM indicate a strategic restructuring as the party positions itself in the National Assembly.
Furthermore, Caleb Amisi, the Saboti MP, has been named Chairperson of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee, succeeding John Mbadi, the Treasury CS Nominee. This reshuffle signifies a crucial moment for ODM as it bolsters its parliamentary leadership.
Despite four ODM members being appointed to President Ruto's cabinet, the party has strongly refuted any claims of a pact with the administration. ODM has stressed its autonomy and revealed intentions to extensively consult within its ranks to fill the vacancies created by the cabinet appointments.
The announcement was disclosed during a high-level meeting attended by prominent figures such as Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir. Subsequent to the ODM gathering, party leader Raila Odinga engaged in discussions with Azimio principals, which included Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee party's Jeremiah Kioni, and KANU's Gideon Moi.
These developments highlight ODM's dynamic approach to maintaining its influence and strategic positioning within Kenya's political landscape.
