One Dead as Uzima University Bus Overturns on Kisumu-Kakamega Highway

On Monday evening, tragedy struck as a bus owned by Uzima University met with a fatal accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway. The bus, carrying 17 students and 2 staff members returning from an educational trip in Kakamega, veered out of control at the Coptic roundabout, ultimately overturning and blocking the dual carriageway.

"One person tragically lost their life in this unfortunate incident," stated a police report, highlighting the severity of the accident. The deceased's body has been transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital pending further investigation.
While the driver and several passengers sustained injuries, one female staff member remains hospitalized at JOOTRH in critical condition. Fortunately, three male and four female students with minor injuries were treated and discharged promptly.
St. John's Ambulance, who responded swiftly to the scene, affirmed, "At around 6pm, our paramedics and concerned citizens assisted in rescuing 46 passengers, believed to be students of Uzima University. Our thoughts are with them for a swift recovery."
The incident has sparked mourning and concern among the university community, with investigations underway to determine the cause of the accident. As the community comes to terms with the loss and injuries, authorities are urging caution and adherence to road safety measures.
