Passengers Escape Death as Matatu Rolls into Ditch on Nairobi-Embu Highway

Several passengers narrowly avoided a fatal accident after the matatu they were traveling in veered off the road and landed in a ditch on Sunday along the Nairobi-Embu highway. The 14-seater Public Service Vehicle (PSV) lost control near the notorious Kambiti black spot, a region known for frequent road accidents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the matatu was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll several times before coming to a stop in a ditch. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though the extent of injuries sustained by the passengers is yet to be confirmed. Emergency services quickly responded, helping the passengers and clearing the scene.

Kambiti has earned a reputation as a dangerous stretch of road, with multiple accidents reported over the years. Authorities have been urged to address the safety concerns along the highway, as residents and motorists continue to call for stricter traffic enforcement and better road signage to prevent future tragedies.
