Paul Famba Takes Oath as New Public Service Commission CEO, Vows to Lead with Integrity and Accountability

Mr. Paul Famba, MBS, was officially sworn in as the new Secretary and CEO of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya. The swearing-in ceremony, held on July 31, 2024, at the Supreme Court of Kenya, was presided over by the Deputy Chief Registrar of Judiciary, Hon. Paul Ndiemo, and witnessed by Hon. Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Chief Justice Koome, in her address, underscored the critical role of the PSC in infusing constitutional values into public service. She highlighted the importance of upholding principles of efficiency, accountability, and integrity, which she described as the cornerstone of Kenya's public service ethos. "The PSC is a priceless asset in our governance system, driving the desire of Kenyans to have a non-partisan, responsive, meritocratic public service," she asserted.

Mr. Famba takes on the role at a pivotal time when public scrutiny on service delivery in government offices is at an all-time high. The Chief Justice urged the new CEO to lead efforts in rooting out corruption and promoting adherence to the constitution. "I urge you to ensure that public officers connect with the concerns of the general citizenry and act as stewards of public resources. The PSC must lead the fight against corruption," she emphasized.

In his remarks, Mr. Famba expressed gratitude to the PSC Chairperson and Board for their confidence in him. He promised to work closely with the Board and Secretariat to elevate the standards of integrity, efficiency, and accountability in the Commission's operations. "I, together with the Secretariat, commit to supporting the Board to ensure that we deliver on the aspirations of our people. We will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and make the PSC a beacon of transparency," he stated.

The ceremony marked a new chapter for the PSC, with Mr. Famba at the helm, tasked with steering the Commission towards a more citizen-centric and corruption-free public service. His leadership is expected to foster a culture of excellence and meritocracy within the public sector, aligning with the Commission’s mandate to safeguard public servants from political interference and promote good governance.
