Police Officer Found Unconscious after Attack by Unknown Assailants in Narok

Corporal Paul Macharia, a police officer attached to Ololulunga police station, was found unconscious after an assault by unknown assailants at Ololulunga market in Narok South. The attack occurred between the night of Saturday, June 8, and the early hours of Sunday, June 9.

Members of the public discovered Corporal Macharia and promptly reported the incident to the police. The officer sustained severe injuries, including a deep cut on the back of his head and a swollen jaw. He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The motive and identity of the assailants remain unknown, and investigations are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This incident highlights a troubling trend of attacks on law enforcement officers in Kenya. Just a week earlier, on Sunday, June 2, a 19-year-old university student named Ian Njoroge was arrested in Nairobi after attacking a police officer. The officer had stopped Njoroge for violating traffic rules at Kasarani. Njoroge was charged with robbery with violence, resisting arrest, and violating traffic regulations.

In another related incident in Nandi, police officer Sammy Maritim was beaten by residents while searching for his missing girlfriend, Akinyi. The search, conducted late at night, disturbed the residents, leading to a confrontation. The officer was reportedly shouting, causing a disturbance that led to his assault.

These incidents underscore the increasing risks police officers face in their line of duty. The police force has urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and security in the community.

As investigations into these assaults continue, the police department reiterates its commitment to protecting citizens while also ensuring the safety and welfare of its officers.
