President Ruto Addresses Nation Ahead of Gen Z X Space Talk

In a comprehensive address to the nation ahead of his anticipated X Space talk with Gen Z, President William Ruto extended his deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. He expressed his commitment to supporting those affected by recent tragedies, emphasizing the government's role in providing aid and solace during difficult times.

"I extend my deepest condolences to the families who lost lives," President Ruto stated. "The government will stand by those who have been affected and offer the necessary support."

Elevating National Dialogue

President Ruto highlighted the nation's shift in focus towards critical issues rather than tribal or political divides. He praised the country for raising the level of debate to address significant national concerns.

"As a nation, we are finally discussing issues," President Ruto noted. "We are not discussing tribes or political parties. We are discussing issues that affect the nation. We have managed to elevate the debate in our country to the levels of issues affecting us."

Public Debt Audit and Fiscal Measures

In a bid to address the country's financial challenges, President Ruto announced the appointment of an independent task force to audit public debt. The task force is expected to report its findings within three months.

"Today, I appointed an independent task force to carry out an audit of our public debt and report to us in the next three months," he revealed.

He also warned of the repercussions of dropping the Finance Bill 2024, stating that it would impact the delivery of key government developments. To mitigate financial strains, he proposed a budget cut of Ksh 177 billion to the National Assembly and plans to borrow the difference.

Cost-Cutting Measures

President Ruto outlined several cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing government expenditure:

- Reduction of state advisors by 50%.

- Renovation budget across government facilities reduced by 50%.

- Closure of 47 overlapping institutions in various ministries.

- Prohibition of public servants from participating in Harambees.

Key Announcements and Future Plans

Before his engagement with the youth on X Spaces, President Ruto announced significant changes, including the suspension of new motor vehicle purchases for government use, except for security agencies, for 12 months. The borrowed funds will be allocated to crucial government services such as:

- Funding JSS intern teachers.

- Funding the milk stabilization program.

- Reviving stalled projects across the country.

- Providing a fertilizer subsidy program.

- Settling debts owed to coffee farmers.

- Enabling public-owned sugar mills to pay debts to sugarcane farmers.

President Ruto's address sets the stage for meaningful dialogue with the younger generation, focusing on national issues and fiscal responsibility while ensuring support for those in need.
