Donald Trump has reclaimed the U.S. presidency as the 47th President, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in a tightly contested race. Kenya's President William Ruto was quick to extend his congratulations, expressing Kenya’s optimism for continued strong relations between the two nations under Trump’s renewed leadership.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ruto conveyed his heartfelt congratulations, underscoring Trump’s re-election as a bold testament to his enduring appeal with the American electorate. He commended Trump’s "visionary, bold, and innovative leadership," which has once again secured the faith of American voters, marking a historic return to the White House.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya and on my own behalf, I convey to Your Excellency, my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” Ruto’s message read. He continued, emphasizing that Kenya is eager to deepen its partnership with the United States.
Ruto highlighted that the U.S.-Kenya relationship, grounded in over sixty years of diplomatic ties, remains strong, with a shared commitment to democracy, development, and mutual respect. As part of his statement, Ruto listed trade, technology, peace and security, and sustainable development as priority areas for collaboration. Under Trump’s leadership, he expressed hope for a renewed emphasis on addressing global challenges together, advancing both peace and inclusive economic growth.
“Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the United States … we look forward to deepening our collaboration under your leadership as we work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security, and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of our peoples,” Ruto added.
Trump’s re-election is historic for several reasons. He becomes the first president in over a century to win a non-consecutive term, securing an unprecedented political comeback. At 78, he will set a record as the oldest president to assume office, surpassing Joe Biden, who will step down at age 82.

Notably, Trump is also the first convicted felon elected to the presidency; he faces sentencing for a New York fraud conviction later this month. Despite these legal controversies, Trump’s victory signals an enduring support base that champions his vision for America.
As the world watches, Kenya’s leadership is optimistic that the Trump administration will continue fostering the mutual values that have underscored U.S.-Kenya relations. Ruto concluded his message by wishing Trump a productive term, one that he believes will further unify the United States and strengthen the relationship between the two nations.
With Trump set to begin his term in January, the next chapter in U.S.-Kenya relations appears promising, and all eyes are on how this administration will influence the global stage.
