This comes after Kenya’s heartbreaking exit in the quarter-finals, losing 4-3 on penalties to Madagascar at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

President William Ruto Hails Harambee Stars’ “Remarkable Run” Despite CHAN Quarter-Final Exit
“Harambee Stars have silenced doubters, lifted the spirit of a nation, and reminded us that when Kenyans play with courage, confidence, and determination, nothing is impossible,” he said.

A Valiant Fight to the End

Despite Kenya’s elimination, President Ruto highlighted the team’s fighting spirit. He stressed that losing on penalties should not overshadow the Stars’ remarkable achievement.

“Yes, we bowed out at the quarter-finals — but we fought valiantly to the very end. To lose in the lottery of penalties is no dishonour; to push the contest to such a finish is itself a badge of greatness,” he stated.

Congratulating Madagascar and Rallying Fans

The President congratulated Madagascar on their victory and encouraged Kenyans to keep supporting the tournament. As co-hosts of the historic Pamoja CHAN, Ruto urged fans to fill Kasarani Stadium with energy, pride, and passion until the final whistle.

“Though we exit the tournament, we remain the proud co-hosts of the historic Pamoja CHAN. Let us continue to fill Kasarani with cheer, energy, pride, and love for the game — all the way to the final whistle,” he urged.

Focus Shifts to AFCON 2027

Looking ahead, Ruto called on the Harambee Stars to build on this experience as they prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will also co-host.

“Kenya shall rise. Kenya shall triumph,” he declared confidently.
