Registrar of Political Parties Officially Recognizes Hassan Omar as UDA's New Secretary General

In a significant shift within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has officially recognized Hassan Omar as the new Secretary General, replacing Cleophas Malala. This development follows the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) decision to revoke Malala's appointment and elevate Omar, who was serving as the Vice Chairperson, to the position of interim Secretary General.

Ann Nderitu, the Political Parties Registrar, confirmed the change on Monday and urged the ruling party to expedite its grassroots elections within the next 180 days. "It is crucial that the party addresses the issue of interim office holders by conducting elections in a timely manner," Nderitu stated, emphasizing the need for stability in the party’s leadership.

The leadership shake-up comes in response to mounting pressure from a faction of UDA members who have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with Malala's performance. Lawyer Joe Khalende, a prominent critic, accused Malala of undermining the party's progress and jeopardizing the coalition government led by President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

"Malala has not only failed in his duties but has also been perceived as a mole for the party's opponents, actively working to cripple UDA's growth," Khalende alleged. He further criticized Malala for the chaotic and legally challenged grassroots elections, which have sparked widespread concern within the party.

As Omar steps into his new role, all eyes will be on the UDA's ability to navigate these internal challenges and solidify its leadership structure in the coming months.
