President William Ruto has firmly dismissed rumors that the Kenyan government plans to sell the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to private investors. Addressing the issue, Ruto clarified that the government intends to pursue a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to revamp the facility, enhancing its capacity and modernity.

“Our airport in Nairobi has been operating with a temporary canvas structure in the arrivals section for nearly seven years. Meanwhile, Ethiopia and Rwanda boast brand-new airports,” Ruto remarked. “This is why we need to collaborate with investors to develop a new, state-of-the-art airport.”
Responding to concerns about the privatization of JKIA, Ruto strongly refuted the idea. “Am I a madman? How do you sell a strategic national asset? You have to be insane. We must have the right investment for the airport. What we want to do is work under the PPP program,” he asserted.
Ruto’s comments come from public outcry over a proposal involving Adani Airports Holding Limited, which plans to inject Ksh.242 billion to expand JKIA. The president's statements reassure the public that the government seeks to enhance the airport through strategic partnerships rather than selling off national assets.
