The Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims (SUPKEM) has called on Kenyan youths to suspend their planned demonstrations set for Thursday, August 8. SUPKEM argues that the newly formed broad-based government should be given time to settle and fulfill its promises.
Despite SUPKEM's plea, Generation Z activists have dubbed the upcoming protest "Nane Nane," vowing it to be the mother of all demonstrations. They aim to hold the government accountable and press for the exit of the current regime. Social media platforms are abuzz with calls for participation, and protesters from various counties are expected to converge in Nairobi. The event will also serve as a platform to demand justice for those who lost their lives in last month's demonstrations.
SUPKEM chairman Sheikh Hassan Ole Naado has urged the youth to reconsider their stance, emphasizing the need to give the new Cabinet a chance to address their demands and work effectively.
The unfolding events highlight the ongoing political and social tensions in Kenya, as a younger generation pushes for governmental accountability and justice, while religious leaders call for patience and dialogue.
