The whereabouts of the Cabinet secretaries before they were fired.

On Thursday morning, at least half of the country's 21 Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi gathered for the inaugural National Development Implementation Committee, only to learn hours later that President William Ruto had terminated their positions.

The meeting, aimed at enhancing service delivery to Kenyans, was led by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, and the now-former Attorney General Justin Muturi. The high-profile gathering included former Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale, Susan Nakhumicha, Njug'una Ndung'u, Ababu Namwamba, Simon Chelugui, Florence Bore, Zachary Njeru, and Penina Malonza, with Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau also in attendance.

In an unexpected announcement, President Ruto dismissed 21 ministers and the Attorney General to pave the way for a broad-based government. Mudavadi remains the lone survivor of this sweeping change, poised to implement the very development plans discussed during the committee meeting.

This seismic event followed closely on the heels of a Cabinet Committee meeting at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's official residence in Karen, where efforts were made to expedite cabinet decision implementations.

Former Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya spent his last hours in office meeting with members of the Kenya Chamber of Mines to discuss licensing and value addition in the mining sector. Concurrently, in Kilifi County, Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua spearheaded a beach cleanup at Vidazini Beach, encouraging residents to maintain cleanliness to boost tourism.

Elsewhere, a planned tour of the BRT Line 2 along Thika Super Highway by Former Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was abruptly cancelled, underscoring the air of uncertainty that had enveloped the government in the lead-up to President Ruto's announcement.

This dramatic cabinet overhaul comes exactly a week after a crucial cabinet meeting and two weeks of anti-government protests that pressured the Head of State to withdraw the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

The nation watches closely as this major political shake-up unfolds, awaiting the formation of the promised broad-based government and its impact on Kenya's future.
