Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has officially stepped down from his position, making the announcement during a meeting with senior county officials at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret. The meeting was attended by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, who is expected to make a formal announcement at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters shortly.
Barorot's resignation comes just days after he publicly dismissed claims that he had left office. These rumors surfaced after he was notably absent from President William Ruto’s event last Thursday, where Eldoret was conferred city status. His unexplained absence from this key event fueled speculation about his status within the county administration.

In a recent interview with The Star, Barorot downplayed the rumors, calling them unfounded but offering no explanation for his absence from the city status ceremony.
Tensions have reportedly been simmering between Barorot and Governor Bii, with some questioning the strength of their working relationship. However, Governor Bii attempted to quell these concerns during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters two weeks ago, stating, "Sorry I forgot to tell you that our Deputy Governor, Engineer Barorot, is not with us here because he is on leave, but we are together in all this."
Despite Bii's reassurances, Barorot's minimal involvement in the preparations for Eldoret's elevation to city status further fueled speculation. Although he missed almost all related events, he did attend one meeting where he praised the media’s role in branding and marketing the new city.
Known for his reserved demeanor and preference for a simple lifestyle, Barorot often drives himself around Eldoret, avoiding the trappings of his high office. His close working relationship with Governor Bii was once evident, as the two frequently attended functions together. However, recent developments suggest a growing distance between them.
As the county awaits the formal announcement of his resignation, Barorot's departure raises questions about the future of Uasin Gishu's leadership.
