The United States Embassy in Kenya has issued a critical security advisory to American citizens, highlighting the ongoing protests in several cities across the country. The embassy warns that these protests are expected to occur primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a focus on central business districts and major thoroughfares.

In the advisory, the embassy urges US citizens to stay vigilant by monitoring local media for updates on road conditions, avoiding large crowds, and keeping vehicle doors and windows securely locked. Additionally, they recommend that Americans inform friends and family of their whereabouts, review their personal security plans, and always carry a copy of their US passport and current Kenyan visa.
"Those behind sponsoring the chaos in the Republic of Kenya, shame on them because they are sponsoring violence against our democratic nation," President Ruto declared during a recent event in Nakuru.
The protests, which began as a response to the Finance Bill 2024, have escalated into a broader movement calling for the resignation of the Kenya Kwanza administration. Although initially peaceful, these demonstrations have frequently turned violent, resulting in injuries and fatalities. According to Rights Group figures, at least 43 people have been killed so far.
In a dramatic turn of events, President Ruto responded to the escalating situation by withdrawing the contentious Finance Bill, proposing new austerity measures, and dismissing his entire cabinet, including the Attorney General. He also accused the US-based Ford Foundation of sponsoring the deadly protests.
"I want to ask the people of Ford Foundation, that money they are giving out to sponsor violence, how are they going to benefit," Ruto told a large crowd gathered to hear him speak.
As the situation in Kenya remains tense, the US Embassy's advisory serves as a crucial reminder for American citizens to prioritize their safety and stay informed about the evolving circumstances.
