Political activist Morara Kebaso, known for his outspoken criticism of government inefficiencies, has been arrested under unclear circumstances at his Kahawa Sukari offices. The incident, which saw officers confiscate electronic devices including phones and laptops, has sparked a wave of speculation and concern about the reasons behind the arrest.

Kebaso's lawyer, Pareno Solonka, revealed that his client has been held incommunicado since the arrest, with authorities cryptically citing "orders from above" as justification.

"Morara is still at the Regional Police Headquarters in Nairobi. Ignore all rumors that he has been transferred!" Solonka declared in a video shared on social platform X (formerly Twitter). Solonka further added that officers stationed at the headquarters' gate had been given strict instructions not to allow lawyers or media personnel access to Kebaso.

Initial reports suggested that Kebaso was being transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu, a claim Solonka swiftly denied. "These are just rumors aimed at causing confusion. Kebaso remains in Nairobi," he insisted.

The reasons for Kebaso's arrest remain shrouded in mystery. However, in late August, the activist had reported being followed by suspected government agents, heightening concerns about his safety. His recent nationwide tour aimed at exposing stalled government projects and alleged widespread corruption has made him a prominent thorn in the side of President William Ruto's administration.

Kebaso has been especially vocal about what he perceives as the government’s failure to deliver on its promises. "If I worry too much, I will not be able to continue my work," he remarked in a previous interview, acknowledging the dangers he faces for speaking out.

The father of two added that his life has been fraught with intimidation, revealing that unmarked vehicles had been seen lurking near his residence, and his phone was likely being tracked. "What I am doing is extremely risky. I have experienced incidents where my phone was tracked and vehicles with untraceable number plates were seen near my home."

Kebaso’s arrest comes amidst a broader trend of silencing government critics, raising questions about freedom of expression and accountability in Kenya. His supporters and legal team are demanding his immediate release, while the country waits for clarity on the true motives behind this high-profile detention.
