Woman jumps into a swollen river with 5-Year-old daughter strapped on her back

Police had earlier launched an investigation following an incident where a woman, with her baby strapped on her back jumped into a river. A woman identified as Maureen Wangui, 29 was seen by the security guard at a near coffee factory jumping into swollen River Nyamindi on Saturday in Kabiroini Village in Kirinyaga village.

With a five-year old daughter strapped to her back, she jumped into the river and was drowned. The guard reported the matter to the authorities and the investigations to unearth the reason why she jumped in the river had began. The family said they were shocked by the incident as she sneaked out of their home. she disappeared as she was washing clothes in the compound.

The body of the five-year-old girl was retrieved on Sunday morning with the operations to recover the woman's body. The body was later taken to Kibugi funeral home for autopsy.
