France Captain Kylian Mbappe Suffers Broken Nose in Euro 2024 Opener

Kylian Mbappe, the star forward and captain of the French national team, suffered a broken nose during their hard-fought 1-0 victory against Austria in Euro 2024 on Monday. The French Football Federation confirmed the injury after the match, revealing that Mbappe collided with Austrian defender Kevin Danso while competing for a header late in the game.

Following the incident, Mbappe was substituted towards the end of the match and subsequently taken to a hospital in Duesseldorf for X-rays. The medical staff, led by team doctor Franck Le Gall, diagnosed Mbappe with a broken nose, a diagnosis that was later confirmed by radiological examinations at the hospital.

"After sustaining a broken nose during the second half of the Austria vs. France match on Monday in Duesseldorf, Kylian Mbappe has returned to the French team's base camp," stated the federation in a post-match statement. "He will undergo necessary treatment in the coming days, with surgery not immediately required."

With France scheduled to face the Netherlands on Friday, Mbappe's availability for the upcoming match is now uncertain. The French Football Federation announced plans to create a protective mask for Mbappe to facilitate his potential return to competitive play after receiving treatment.

The injury to Mbappe represents a significant concern for France as they navigate through the Euro 2024 tournament, with hopes high for their star player's swift recovery.
