Germany Surges to Euro 2024 Quarter-Finals with 2-0 Victory Over Denmark

In a dramatic night at Signal Iduna Park, Euro 2024 hosts Germany secured their place in the quarter-finals with a commanding 2-0 win over Denmark. This marks Germany's first appearance in the last eight of a major tournament since 2016.

The match, held in Dortmund, saw an early disallowed goal from Nico Schlotterbeck, as the home crowd's celebrations were cut short by a foul in the build-up. Germany dominated the opening stages, with Kasper Schmeichel making crucial saves to keep Denmark in the game.

Denmark began to find their rhythm midway through the first half, creating a few chances on the counter-attack. However, a severe lightning storm halted play, bringing hailstones and torrential rain to the iconic stadium.

After the weather cleared, both teams returned with renewed vigor. Kai Havertz's penalty early in the second half, awarded after a VAR review for handball, broke the deadlock. Havertz added his second goal of the tournament with a cool finish, following a fine solo run. Jamal Musiala sealed the victory with a composed strike, benefiting from Schlotterbeck's exquisite long pass.

Denmark's frustration grew as they had a goal disallowed for offside and were unable to find a breakthrough. Germany's victory extends their unbeaten run to eight matches, while Denmark's winless streak at major tournaments continues.

Germany will now face the winner of the Spain vs Georgia match in the quarter-finals, as they continue their quest for Euro 2024 glory.
