Kenya's Rugby 7s Faces Tough Start at Paris 2024 as Argentina Dominates.

In a spirited yet challenging opener at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kenya's national rugby sevens side, Shujaa, suffered a 31-12 defeat against Argentina on Wednesday afternoon. The game, held at the iconic Stade de France, saw Shujaa initially leading at the break before Argentina mounted a formidable comeback, leaving Kenya with much to ponder ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

The atmosphere in the stadium was electric, with a passionate crowd whose energy echoed the lingering animosity from the 2022 FIFA World Cup clash between France and Argentina. This charged environment added an extra layer of intensity to the match, with the fans eagerly anticipating the outcome.

Despite Shujaa’s promising start, where they showcased skill and determination, Argentina’s resilience and strategic play proved too much. By the second half, Argentina had found their rhythm, executing a series of well-coordinated moves that ultimately overwhelmed the Kenyan side.

Shujaa captain, Andrew Amonde, expressed his disappointment after the match, stating, “We came in strong and had a good first half, but we lost our momentum. Argentina capitalized on our mistakes, and we need to regroup and focus on our next games.”

Kenya now looks ahead to their remaining group matches against Australia and Samoa, where they hope to turn their fortunes around and make amends for the initial loss. The team remains optimistic, with head coach Innocent Simiyu emphasizing the importance of resilience and learning from their mistakes. “This is just the beginning. We have to stay positive and prepare well for Australia and Samoa. The boys are determined to give their best,” he remarked.

As Shujaa gears up for these crucial encounters, fans and supporters remain hopeful that the team will find their stride and showcase the talent and spirit that has made them a formidable force in the rugby sevens circuit.

The road to redemption starts now, and all eyes will be on Shujaa as they seek to rise above this early setback and make their mark at Paris 2024.
