Vidovic and Goretzka Shine in Kompany's First Major Test with a 2-1 Victory Over Spurs

In his first significant challenge as Bayern Munich's new manager, Vincent Kompany guided his team to a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, with goals from Gabriel Vidovic and Leon Goretzka. The win marks a promising start for Kompany as he looks to establish his reign at the Bundesliga powerhouse.

The highly anticipated match was also notable for what didn’t happen—Tottenham's Son Heung-min did not get the chance to reunite with his former captain, Harry Kane, who is still recuperating after leading England to the Euro 2024 final last month. Kane’s absence, however, didn’t diminish the pre-game camaraderie, as Eric Dier, now with Bayern, was seen catching up with his old Spurs teammates, including Son, Richarlison, and James Maddison, during the warm-up.

Bayern wasted no time getting into gear, with former Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry nearly opening the scoring within the first two minutes, sending a powerful shot just over the bar. The German side's early pressure paid off moments later when Vidovic calmly slotted the ball through goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario's legs after some clever play from Gnabry.

Kompany’s side continued to impress with their slick passing and fluid movement, often leaving Spurs chasing shadows. Leon Goretzka doubled the lead shortly after halftime, capitalizing on Bayern's dominance in an entertaining match filled with chances at both ends.

Bayern’s performance under Kompany hints at an exciting season ahead, as the new manager looks to build on this early success.
